The Liebster Whut? About myself.
So three different bloggers have apparently nominated me for this cool thing going around the blogosphere called the 'liebster award'. I was pretty sceptical at first seeing it on other people's blogs, as it seems a lot of people nominate others without really engaging with the content of the blogs they nominate. This was the case for some of the people who 'nominated' me.
However, one of the ladies who sent me this nomination, Tamsin, has a blog I often check out because she and I have quite similar style and she always has amazing bargain finds which make my bank balance very happy! She's also left me some very sweet and constructive comments on my own posts, so I'm happy to give a little shoutout!
The usual rules are that you give 10 facts about yourself, answer 10 questions and nominate 10 other blogs. But, you know, no.
Tooooooooo lazy for that, soz. In truly narcissistic style I am going to make this post almost entirely about moi. So here are 10 fun (ish) facts about yours truly!
1. I'm all mixed up. I'm half persian and half alaskan, and I was born and raised in the UK. I came to the netherlands when I left high school at 16 and I've been here since. My accent has been shifting since I was a little girl, so it's hard to place me from that, and people are often a little curious about where it is I come from and why I look the way I do.
2. If I told you where I was from, you wouldn't believe me. When I was nine, we moved from a Birmingham suburb to a small island in the Outer Hebrides (google it.) which I came to consider my home. It's beautiful out there and I'm always missing the views.
3. I'm reclaiming my attidude towards my body. For several years I have struggled with my weight, and binge eating has been a huge problem for me. It sucks, but I have realised that I can only heal by treating myself with respect and making my own health and happiness a priority. It's also handy to focus on the good things, I can run, jump, sing and dance, and it would be such a shame to hate a body that enables me to do all of that.
It's okay if potato chips make you this happy. it really is. Also DAMN my hair was long! This is last summer, in Gran Canaria.
4. My friends are very important to me. Helen Keller once said "I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light," and although it's corny, that's really how I feel. I had a lot of friends who were not really friends to me when I was younger, so the people who stick by me no matter what are very important to me, even if they haven't always been in my life.
5. My personal style has always been.. experimental. Once I wore my school uniform hoodie over a black turtleneck, with black pedal-pushers over ribbed black tights, and kitten-heel pointed-toe ankle boots. Oh and I finished off that lovely ensemble with an old school Snooki poof in my hair. I wish I had a photo to share, I really do.
6. I want to travel so much more. I was very lucky that my parents took me on cool holidays when I was younger, and that I've had oppurtunities to visit a lot of the US to see family. But one of my main regrets, (if you can have those at 19, okay regrets are silly, not regrets) is that I haven't really travelled at all outside of Europe and the States! The world is so giant and I have lots of time to visit it all, so for now I'll stick to planning my autumn break!
7. I'm not sure whether I'm a country girl or a city slicker. I pretty much grew up in the countryside, but now I live in a city, I find I really enjoy the anonymity I have here, there's a sense of freedom in living amongst 500000 others. I do miss the fresh air and beauty of the islands though.
8. There's a small list of people for whom I would do anything. Loving others is one of the best things you can do for yourself, but I value quality over quantity in the people around me, and the list of people I really love is short but beautiful!
9. I know blogging isn't important, but it's fun! I study International Development, and I am very aware of the fact that I am very, very, very lucky to have the time and the means to blog about the things I have on here. I have more than I need and whilst this excess is comforting, it's important to remember how privileged we are. My blog is a way to let off steam, and unwind at the end of the day. I've loved looking at my favourite blogs ( 1, 2, 3, 4) for little bits of inspiration for how to make my life a little more stylish for a few years now, and I thought it'd be fun to try it out myself!
10. My lucky number is 10. I was born on the tenth of October, and my mother calls me her perfect 10.
If you've read all of this, bless you.
